Community Amenities
Glendon on the River is an equestrian community located along the Deep River in Moore County, North Carolina. This unique community offers miles of horse/walking/riding trails, access to the Deep River and acres of protected community forest.
Deep River
The Deep River forms the southern
boundary of the community for 1.5 miles. Between the river and
the
home sites lies 150 acres of protected hardwood bottomland which you can
explore on horseback or afoot on 10 miles of trails. A canoe access (coming spring 2010) will feature
an access to the river for launching canoes and kayaks, a picnic area
with tables, deck and grilling area. The river not only offers peacefulness
and beauty, but also fishing, canoeing and kayaking. The newly
created
Deep
River Trail
will
provide addition river access points.
The Deep River is filled with history starting with Native Americans who fished, lived and hunted along the river. Eventually Europeans settled in the river valley and built sawmills and gristmills along the river. Evidence of this era can be found in the conservation land where an old bridge abutment still stands at a former mill site. Some of the main uses of the river are recreation, fishing, and paddling. The plant and animal communities found along the banks of the river have been preserved by conservation easements on thousands of acres.
The Deep River contains a variety of plant and animal life. The river is home to otters, eagles, bass and pan fish, bobcats, and deer. The banks of the river are lined with vast hardwood stands containing oak, ash, walnut, maples and sycamore.
Riding Trails
10 miles of riding/walking/mountain biking trails
are located in the bottomland of the Deep River. Each home site has access
to
these
trails. The trail system is private and only open to the homeowners of
Glendon on the River. The trails can be used for horseback riding, walking
and mountain biking. The network of trails starts in the gentle hills
near Rascob Road and eventually travel to the bottomland of the Deep River.
Interspersed throughout the trails are small clearings that can be used for
camping, a picnic or just to take a break. The trail system is also connected
with the canoe launch.
Community Land
Adding to the enjoyment of the river and trail network is 150 acres of protected community land. This land is private and is only available for use of homeowners of Glendon on the River. The land is protected from development by a conservation easement. The intent of the easement is to protect the water quality of the Deep River, prohibit future development and insure that the plant and animal ecosystems remain intact. Lots 1, 5 and 6 adjoin the conservation land. Homeowners can use this land for horseback riding (on existing trails), hiking, camping, and wildlife viewing. The land is covered with a stand of mature hardwoods comprised of red and white oak, red and sugar maple, black walnut, ash, poplar, sycamore and an occasional pine. Some of these trees are larger than 30 inches in diameter.
Septic System
Each lot in Glendon on the River has been engineered
with an environmental friendly septic system by Aqwa
.
The Advantex Treatment System use an environmentally friendly filtering
system that produces waste water clean enough to be used for drip or subsurface
irrigation. Unlike a tradition septic system, the Advantex system release
small amounts of treated waste water throughout the day which is better
for the environment.
